SCD and Probiotics

When discussing SCD (specific carbohydrate diet) the topic of probiotics is often thrown around and brought up. The reasoning behind this is because SCD is commonly used for individuals who have issues with Crohn’s Disease, Ulcerative Colitis, or other stomach related conditions. Because it is important that with many of these stomach related conditions making sure there is not an imbalance of microflora in the gut, probiotics can be a key factor of assuring this.

Foods To Eat While On SCD

Some of the most common foods that should be consumed are various fruits and vegetables and nuts. The foods to stay away from are sugary foods and very starchy vegetables such as beans and corn.

Gluten Free is the way to be with SCD

SCD is a diet that is 100% gluten free. It also is free of grains and sugars. Because of this SCD diet is popular with many who have various food allergies and food intolerance issues. Many gluten free diets recommend probiotics because the balance in the gut is so essential. Also, most probiotics are 100% gluten free, which is why it is especially important to make sure this is true when picking out a probiotic supplement to take.

If you have a son or daughter that has Crohn’s Disease or one of the above mentioned stomach conditions, you will want to ask your doctor before starting SCD or making any huge dietary changes.

  • This info is very depressing for me. After 6 years on the scd diet you are still hanivg this stuff happening to you? I am beginning to think the doctors may be right that it isn’t curable like leprosy or something. I just started the scd diet about 3 weeks ago and haven’t had any change of my UC diarrhea but I thought after a few months to a year for sure I would get my internals healed enough to go back to a normal diet and not have to go to the bathroom every half hour like usual. But after seeing you being on it for 6 bloody years and still suffering like this I don’t know where else to go. The scd diet is the last thing that I had not tried, and I was so hopeful it would work. I really hope it will, I can’t take this diarrhea anymore, I can’t live a normal life anymore.sorry to bother you, I really hope you get better. I hope your documentary brings us all some solution which will never come from the medical profession as there is no money for them in a food based cure.
